CO₂ Toll: Classification of vehicles Is changing
From 1 July 2026, the classification of trucks with a TPMLM of more than 16 tonnes into CO₂ emission classes will change. This is due to new EU regulations that were adopted in December 2025.
The limit values used to categorise a vehicle within a CO₂ emissions class are falling. This means that it will be more difficult for vehicles to be categorised in a CO₂ class better than 1. A vehicle that was classified in class 3 in 2025 may fall into class 2 or 1 in 2026. The changed categorisation leads to higher toll costs.
You can use our CO₂ emission class finder to check how your vehicles are categorised. You will need the vehicle registration certificate part I (VRC I) and, if necessary, other documents such as:
- CIF, Customer Information File
- COC, Certificate of Conformity
- Individual authorisation form
Registered customers whose vehicles are affected by a categorisation within a new CO₂ emissions class will be informed by Toll Collect.
