Toll Act: Bundesrat Adopts New Toll Rates

On 25 November 2022, the Bundesrat approved the fifth amendment to the German Federal Trunk Road Toll Act (BFStrMG), which contains the toll rates applicable with effect from 1 January 2023. Publication of the act in the Federal Gazette signifies the conclusion of the legislative process.
In the new rates, the external costs for air pollution and noise pollution in particular will carry more weight. In addition to the existing differentiation according to emission class, these will also be differentiated according to weight class and – in the case of vehicles weighing over 18 tonnes – according to axle class as well.
